Unlocking your potential through psychology
On November 21st, De Montfort University Kazakhstan hosted the Leadership Lab: Unlocking Potential through Psychology workshop as part of its Business Club community, in collaboration with Sezim, online therapy platform.
The event brought together 28 participants from DMUK’s corporate network, including Air Astana, SCHNEIDER GROUP, Philip Morris Kazakhstan, Inditex, Intertop Kazakhstan, Meras Group, Kex Group, and PepsiCo.
Interactive Leadership Exercise with Dr. Natalia Hartinger
The first part of the workshop, led by Dr. Natalia Hartinger, DMUK Business Lecturer and Postgraduate Programmes Lead, featured an engaging leadership exercise. Participants paired up to role-play a workplace scenario between a manager and an employee, tasked with navigating the interaction while keeping their roles and tasks confidential.
After the activity, Dr. Natalia guided participants in a self-reflection exercise, encouraging them to evaluate their communication style, active listening skills, personal assumptions, and emotional awareness. The discussion underscored the importance of empathy, clear communication, and adaptability in leadership, offering valuable insights into bridging communication gaps and fostering stronger workplace relationships.
Emotional Intelligence and Communication Insights with Dmitry Tarantin
The workshop was then led by a practising clinical psychologist Dmitry Tarantin, Head of Psychology Programmes at Sezim. Dmitry explored the role of emotional intelligence in leadership, focusing on how verbal communication is interpreted in dialogue and the influence of context on perceptions. Through lively discussions and real-life scenarios, participants gained a deeper understanding of how emotional intelligence enhances communication, builds trust, and cultivates a productive work environment.
Closing Insights from Sezim’s Founder, Alan Ibraim
The workshop concluded with insights from Alan Ibraim, founder of Sezim, who shared an overview of the platform’s courses and initiatives. Alan provided an eye-opening perspective on the state of employee mental health in Kazakhstan and highlighted Sezim’s role in promoting resilience and psychological well-being.
Networking and Reflections
The event wrapped up with a networking session, giving attendees the chance to connect, exchange ideas, and reflect on the day’s key takeaways.
We extend our gratitude to all participants for contributing to the success of this workshop. DMUK is proud to continue fostering meaningful corporate partnerships.
