MSc Marketing Management

Overview

The MSc Marketing Management degree programme enables students to learn, develop, and apply the best-practice skills and knowledge of a marketing professional, to a range of relevant commercial work environments, utilising marketing objectives, strategy, and tactics. The research and contextual-based learning enables students who are either new to the area of marketing, or experienced at an undergraduate level, to understand and apply management-level marketing practices, in a global situation.

Each subject area has been formed from input and involvement with live business and agencies, so students can learn the latest commercial practices, in addition to the academic thinking in the modern, digital landscape. Assessments are live industry situations with companies, so students can graduate with real-life experience of putting theory into practice, which helps with employability.

Students will be able to deepen their understanding of marketing management through exposure to real world marketing challenges, the latest digital media and platforms, and the development of campaign strategies and tactics. They will also have an opportunity to broaden their expertise in strategic marketing decision-making, with a view of gaining a leadership position in marketing. Students will face a final challenge to their marketing expertise in the form of a dissertation or marketing consultancy project.

Teaching and assessment

The learning and teaching methods on this programme embrace a broad range of approaches that have demonstrated effectiveness in postgraduate marketing education. They are based on commercial practice with businesses and agencies, so students graduate with a toolkit of live, contextual achievements. These include both formal and informal inputs. Traditional lectures will outline the models, theoretical frameworks for the different areas of marketing, with a cutting-edge focus on strategic alternatives and considerations. Tutorial discussion and other interactive activities such as seminars, workshops, and case study analysis encourage students to examine further the core elements of marketing in a critically analytical manner. Other approaches might include videos, guest lectures, collaborative group work, such as presentations and projects, and individual presentations, simulations and computer modelling and the Dissertation or Marketing Consultancy Project.

Assessment strategy is based on testing a wide range of skills required for marketing management practice. Support is provided through feedback on initial work and general guidance. Examples include reports, infographics with tables and diagrams, presentations and coursework. Students are encouraged to showcase their work on LinkedIn because the work ties in directly to employability.

Graduates from the course are now pursuing successful careers in large multinational organisations and medium-sized entrepreneurial businesses, typically in roles such as product development, brand management, digital marketing, marketing communications, market research, customer service management, e-marketing and sales.

Recent graduates from our Marketing Management MSc programmes are now working for a variety of UK and international companies including IBM, Toyota,Candi, Schroders Investments, Saudi Industrial Development Fund and Sudan International University. Recent agency and media appointments include WPP, DDB Hong Kong, Leo Burnett Cyprus, Razorfish, Punch Communications, Creare Design, The Station Agency and Big Communications.

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes.

We normally expect student to achieve an overall 'good' grade. We appreciate that the marking schemes in universities in Kazakhstan can differ. If your undergraduate degree is graded on the GPA system, we would usually look for a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, 3.5 out of 4.33, or 4 out of 5.

Work experience is not a requirement.

International applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject with a minimum pass of 2:2, or equivalent overseas qualification.

Professional qualifications deemed to be of equivalent standing will be considered on an individual basis.

The standard entry requirement is IELTS 6.0 (no component below 5.5) and TOEFL iBT 60 out of 120 with each section (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) to be not less than 15

Postgraduate
For September 2023/24 entry, our tuition fees for full-time postgraduate local and international students are 13,000$.
