LLM International Business Law

Overview

The course provides you with a thorough ground in all aspects of international business law and is taught by staff with extensive expertise in many legal fields. The course is suitable for graduates in either business or law and for international students.

  • Professional Field Experience (15 month option only) - This module requires students to participate in a self-organised internship / social innovation project / volunteering / short commercial assistance that entails a minimum of 30 hours of work (conducted any time between June – August each summer).

  • International Marketing
  • Sustainable Business

Plus choose one of the following:

  • Executive Company Project
  • Consultancy project
  • Entrepreneurship Project

Teaching and assessment

Teaching is delivered through a mix of formal lectures, more informal seminars, tutorials, workshops, discussions and e-learning packages. A number of modules use in-course situations to encourage deeper learning and develop on-the-job skills of future managers and entrepreneurs. Assessment is usually through a combination of individual and group work, presentations, elevator pitches, essays, reports and exams.

This is a full-time course so you should be prepared to devote approximately 38 hours a week to your studies. You will typically have up to 14 hours contact hours of teaching most weeks for semester 1 and 2. Teaching is through a mix of lecturers, tutorials, seminars and lab sessions and the breakdown of these activities is shown in each module description.

In addition each module provides a 2 hour surgery each week available for individual consultation with the lecturer. You may also have some scheduled meetings with your programme leader, personal tutor, and/or careers throughout the year to discuss your academic progress and personal development.

Self-directed study: In order to prepare for, and assimilate, the work in lectures and seminars you will be expected to make regular use of our on-line resources, participate in classroom discussions including on our virtual learning environment (VLE) and engage in personal study, revision and reflection for approximately 24 hours per work during semester 1 and 2

In semester 3, you will undertake independent research for your Entrepreneurship Project or Executive Company Project. You will be allocated a dedicated academic supervisor to support you, who you will be able to contact on a regular basis.

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes.

We normally expect student to achieve an overall 'good' grade. We appreciate that the marking schemes in universities in Kazakhstan can differ. If your undergraduate degree is graded on the GPA system, we would usually look for a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, 3.5 out of 4.33, or 4 out of 5.

Work experience is not a requirement.

International applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject with a minimum pass of 2:2, or equivalent overseas qualification.

Professional qualifications deemed to be of equivalent standing will be considered on an individual basis.
