With the digital era continuing to develop rapidly, the role of computing and its impact on our lives is more important than ever. New and innovative computer technologies are constantly being unveiled, with software engineers, systems developers, programmers and analysts playing a vital role in their creation and development.

Benefiting from more than 50 years of successful teaching, our Computer Science course focuses on modern approaches to software systems development, allowing you to explore both the theoretical and practical skills needed to understand programming language concepts, software design methods, secure web systems, computer architecture and computer networks.

The course prepares you for a wide variety of career opportunities, from programming and developer roles to software engineering, with computer technology closely linked with an extensive range of industries such as medicine, education, entertainment, security and architecture.

Entry criteria

WHO CAN APPLY? 

Students in the final year of secondary education institutions;

Students in the final year of technical, vocational, post-secondary and higher education institutions;

Graduates from secondary, post-secondary or higher education institutions. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

Kazakhstan Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • UNT is not required

OR

UK Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE/IGCSE’s at A*- E, or two GCE A levels (grades A- E), or three GCE AS levels (grades A-E)

OR

  • International Baccalaureate
  • International Baccalaureate IB – a minimum of 20 points
  • International Baccalaureate IB – Middle Years Programme – 28 points with a minimum grade of 3 in each component 

English language

The standard entry requirement is IELTS 5.0 (no component below 5.0)

Personal Statement  

As part of the selection process we will ask you to submit a short statement in English to describe your ambitions, skills, and experience. Your personal statement supports your application to study at the university. It’s a chance for you to say why you’d like to study a particular course or subject, and what skills and experience you possess that show your passion for your chosen field. It is an opportunity for you to write about YOU!

Letter of Recommendation from your last education institution

You will need to provide a reference letter from your previous school or college’s teacher, counsellor, or principal.

Teaching and assessments

Teaching and assessment

In the first year, you will normally attend around 12-14 hours of timetabled taught sessions each week, split across a variety of lectures, small group activities and practical laboratory work.

There are a variety of assessment methods, typically including short tests, practical software development tasks, written work, and presentations. Your written and academic reading skills will be developed in the ethics and law topics and you will develop a portfolio that will give you experience of practical development. 

In the second year, the emphasis moves towards more substantive practical assignments and you will practise modern software development techniques. Research and presentation skills are also important in the second year.

In the final year, the individual software development project forms a major part of the practical assessment.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT.

Once you have graduated and begun to work as an IT professional you can apply to become a full member of the BCS and, as your career develops, gain the status of Chartered IT Professional (CITP), giving you a recognised industry-relevant qualification.This course is accredited by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT.

For September 2022/23 entry, our tuition fees for full-time undergraduate local and international students are 12,500$.

Family loyalty discount
The Family Loyalty Discount is for local and international students. When 2 or more family members enrol at the same time a further 5% discount will be given off your course fees for each family member for each year they are enrolled on a full-time course, whether that is an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or English language course. The discount will be offered for a maximum of 2 family members and the family discount will be applied after any discount is applied.

You must be the sibling, spouse or child of someone who is either currently studying on, or has graduated from, a full-time course here at DMU Kazakhstan. That relative must also be (or have been) classified as a local or international student.

Siblings: you and your sibling can have one or both parents in common.

Children/parents: you can be related by blood or by marriage.
